RUK Sport kayak scupper stoppers are round, cone-shaped stoppers that seal off the scupper drain holes in the bottom of sit-on-top kayaks
They have a piece of rope attached to them to make them easy to pull out of the scupper holes when they aren’t needed
When would I need to use them ? You need scupper stoppers for your sit-on-top kayak if you want to prevent water coming up through the scupper holes and into your kayak. They are designed to be used when paddling on calm waters and you don’t feel like getting wet, or if you have a heavy load in your kayak which means water would be pushed up through the holes by the kayak displacement (sitting lower on the water)
They are designed to give you some control over that process of draining and filling, but it is important to remember the purpose of the scupper holes is to allow the sit on top to self bail when water gets on the deck – letting water in and out as the kayak finds an equilibrium with the surrounding water
They should not be used when paddling in rough water conditions as they will stop water from draining out
